36 Obama aides owe $833,000 in back taxes

How embarrassing this must be for President Obama, whose major speech theme so far this campaign season has been that every single American, no matter how rich, should pay their "fair share" of taxes.

Because how unfair -- indeed, un-American -- it is for an office worker like, say, Warren Buffet's secretary to dutifully pay her taxes, while some well-to-do people with better educations and higher incomes end up paying a much smaller tax rate.

Or, worse, skipping their taxes altogether.

A new report just out from the Internal Revenue Service reveals that 36 of President Obama's executive office staff owe the country $833,970 in back taxes. These people working for Mr. Fair Share apparently haven't paid any share, let alone their fair share.

Previous reports have shown how well-paid Obama's White House staff is, with 457 aides pulling down more than $37 million last year. That's up seven workers and nearly $4 million from the Bush administration's last year.

When Obama saids fair share and higher taxes he is only talking about republicans evidently, I guess if you work for Obama fair share doesnt apply. I cant figure out why this is allowed by t h IRS we have people that working here that owe just a few thousand and the IRS is taking money from their pay checks but then again they dont work for Obama or are democrats in Washington like TG or Daschle. I bet you wont get to many comments from the liberals on NV about this article some how it will be overlooked by them lol.

So now it's Obama's fault that people don't pay their taxes. Give me a break. People will come up with any kind of shyt to try and discredit Obama.

Lets see now, Bush, Clinton, Regan, older Bush and other presidents robbed the Social security funds. Why aren't people bytching about that.

Boehner is involved with Insider Trading approved by congress involved with it as well. No one is bytching about that either.

Please tell me where ANYONE said it was Obama's fault. These are people in Obama's inner circle. One would think he WOULD care.

I hold a mortgage broker's license. If the IRS filed a judgment against me, I'd LOSE MY LICENSE AND MY JOB. Why should I be held to a higher standard than people paid BY the government?

Maybe all the talk about transparency is having some effect. In the President's case the whole affair is probably "out of sight..out of mind."

So I guess every employer is now suppose to be responsible for people filing their tax returns.

Obama is not responsible for his friends, workers, or family members for filing their tax returns. these people are responsible for their own tax returns and should be made to pay up.

It's not Obama's fault for people not paying their taxes.

Did you read the rest of my post? YES, employers DO CARE whether someone pays their taxes when it is this type of job, OR a type of job where your credit-worthiness is paramount. Insurance agents, mortgage brokers, bankers, lenders, stock brokers - some licenses are based on credit rating. so WTF should government employees be exempt?

P.S. You can FILE your tax returns just fine and not PAY YOUR TAXES you know!

elaine, since this is a duplicate seed I will post a duplicate post to one I did on the origional. The FACTS remain the same.......

Interesting choice.....investor's business daily's website. And Andew Malcom.......isn't his piece a "blog" He did bring up bush the moral/mental midget's "aides" but seems to have failed to say how many of them "OWE" backtaxes and I'm pretty confident that there are some! And LOTS of people "owe" back taxes and that doesn't mean that they aren't PAYING on that debt and that part isn't addressed in the hit piece. I have known friends who got popped on that issues throught little if any fault of their own......

When mr malcom stated, " These people working for Mr. Fair Share apparently haven't paid any share, let alone their fair share." I'm pretty sure he doesn't have ALL the facts but certainly willing to make the unsupported alligation and the fools and lemmings jump right onboard.

AND >>>>OH WOW......aides to the WH owe all of 833,000. BIG DEAL! HOUSE OF REPS....you know, mostly GNOP.....owe more than 8.5 MILLION!!!!! And I'm using good ol malcom's source! Senate owe a little over 1.1 MILL. ACTIVE duty military.....a whopping 111,027,905 and that is small potatoes to what the postal service OWES......OVER 269 million. WE aren't even addressing many companies and their upper management who outsource the profits made here cause their tools in the house wrote the rules so they could!

This is an absolute TRAVESTY! Of course, the IRS knows exactly where to find these people, and since the government ISSUES the pay checks I'm sure they can figure out how to attach these wages. I am appalled and disgusted! I do believe that the active military members owing taxes should be given payment plans, but the rest should have to go out and get a loan and pay up, or LOSE THEIR CUSHY JOBS!

Oh, wait a minute - are these the people liberals insist are too poor to pay taxes???????

That's a very good point Boudicea! Why doesn't the IRS garnish their wages for taxes owed? The IRS will chance anyone else down for 5 cents owed....why not these privileged people?

Follow the LINK for the report and you get a little chart that spells out ( sort of) owed taxes to the IRS by all govt. employees.

From the Senate ( no political parties given) over $2 million

House of Representatives ( again no party) over $8.5million

I'm not going to worry about active military and postal service - most of those people don't make much money but they owe huge amounts total.

        http://sidschwab.blogspot.com/2012/01/rs-love-tax-cheats.html

It looks like they aren't that worried about some people paying their back taxes. But it's fun to point fingers.

The top salary there was $75k...compare that to our Senators and Representives and NO I'm not going to worry too much about that. Maybe 75k is huge bucks to you, to me it's not ( but then again I'm one of those liberals you know- classwarfare and all./s) The number of postal employees vs. the number of Washington employees is slightly different, a big of a different ratio. If we look at the military ( which I'm not particularly concerned about either) we have a huge range of salaries, but that chart doesn't really break it down by rank and position either.

The fact is there are vast numbers of americans that don't pay their tax bills. We all should. Many don't for varying reasons. If you have ever owed the IRS ( I haven't personally but know people who have -both Rs and Ds ) it's not fun, usually they catch up with you and your bill has only grown.

I find this to be an interesting conversation.

To this "classwarfare" liberal 75k is not a lot of money. It's a decent salary. Right smack in the middle of the middle class. What would the tax bracket be for a person making that salary? About 25% Yet guys like Romney paid what? A bit under 13%

There are a lot reasons people end up owing the IRS. Take for instance a person who makes $7 + comm. and still came in under the poverty level , how could that person end up owing $600 in taxes? What would happen if that person didn't have someone who could step up and help out? Ideas?

Ever heard of someone owing the IRS after a business fails? Many thousands of dollars, what was once business is now personal? It happens.

Geez, I wished I made 75 K a year, but I don't begrudge them that...if they earn it, more power to them.

IF they earn it... what exactly does "earn" mean these days? Worked for it? Capital gains? Which is not likely in that income bracket. Like I "wish" I could make a million dollars and you know what I'd be willling 40% because I'd still be making far more than I do now. I wouldn't need a tax code that unfairly targets the middle class.

If someone makes $75,000 there is no reason they can't afford to pay their taxes. It really depends on where you live, you know? In NYC that might not be much, but in Western PA, it's UPPER middle class.

Since the report is for all employees and Retirees, how in the world do you come up with the ridiculous assumption that this all comes from the present 36 Obama aides? For Christ's sake read your own sources before you spew your right wing nonsense. For all we know, these could be back taxes owed by previous administrations. There is no breakdown by Presidential administration.

The report has been read and the article states "36 Obama aides owe" so in interpreting the info at hand it would lead one to "trust" the statement. (as much as you can with media these days) The detailed report, is poorly detailed and the word "retirees" is just there on every list. So instead of "accusing" others of not reading "your" interpretation of the stats , we can just leave each other to their own "assumption" of the facts. (which is all anyone seems to do these days)

It really does go to the question of character in this President. The man seems to enjoy surrounding himself with tax cheats, anarchist, Socialists, bigots and America haters. But then, most of us knew that 3 years ago.

Sorry, but if you work in the WH or in Congress, you should be suspended and/or removed until taxes are cleared up.

In the WH there is absolutely no excuse since Obama gave his staff 14-87% pay raises!

Bill and Bud from Hernando Mississippi located a mule and bought it for $100.

The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day.

The next morning the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, fellows, I have some bad news, the mule died last night."
                        ...
Bill and Bud replied, "Well, then just give us our money back."

The farmer said, "Cain't do that. I went and spent it already."

They said, "OK then, just bring us the dead mule."

The farmer asked, "What in the world ya'll gonna do with a dead mule?"

Bill said, "We gonna raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead mule!"

Bud said, "We shor can! Heck, we don't hafta tell nobody he's dead!"

A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Bill and Bud at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and asked "What'd you fellers ever do with that dead mule?"

They said,"We raffled him off like we said we wuz gonna do."

Bill said,"Shucks, we sold 500 tickets fer two dollars apiece and made a profit of $998."

The farmer said,"dern, didn't anyone complain?"

Bud said, "Well, the feller who won got upset. So we gave him his two dollars back."

Bill and Bud now work for the gub'ment.

                        They're overseein' the Stimulus Program.

There should be a new rule:

Limit all U.S.politicians to two terms: One in office & One in prison.

                        Mississippi already does this.
