ACORN Officials Scramble, Firing Workers and Shredding Documents, After Exposed as Players Behind Occupy Wall Street Protests

Officials with the revamped ACORN office in New York -- operating as New York Communities for Change -- have fired staff, shredded reams of documents and told workers to blame disgruntled ex-employees for leaking information in an effort to explain away a FoxNews.com report last week on the group’s involvement in Occupy Wall Street protests, according to sources.

NYCC also is installing surveillance cameras and recording devices at its Brooklyn offices, removing or packing away supplies bearing the name ACORN and handing out photos of Fox News staff with a stern warning not to talk to the media, the sources said.

“They’re doing serious damage control right now,” said an NYCC source.

NYCC Executive Director Jon Kest has been calling a series of emergency meetings to discuss last week’s report—and taking extreme measures to identify the sources in their office and to prevent further damage, a source within NYCC told FoxNews.com.

Two staffers were fired after NYCC officials suspected them as the source of the leaks, a source told FoxNews.com. “One was fired the day the story came out, the other was fired on Friday. (NYCC senior staff) told everyone that they were fired because they talked to you,” a source said.

NYCC spokesman Scott Levenson denied that anyone was fired for talking to the press.

“It was pretty funny. Jonathan told staff they don’t pay for protesters, but the people in the meeting who work there objected and said, ‘Wait, you pay us to go to the protests every day?’ Then Jonathan said ‘No, but that’s your job,’ and staffers were like, ‘Yeah, our job is to protest,’ and Westin said, ‘No your job is to fight for economic and social justice. We just send you to protest.’

“Staff said, ‘Yes, you pay us to carry signs.’ Then Jonathan says, ‘That’s your job.’ It went on like that back and forth for a while.”

i am going to reserve judgement on this one. foxnews.com has been known to lie. the last acorn scandal was not a scandal at all. also, every source in that piece seems to be an anonymous source. do they have any known sources? i will wait until more comes out.

These Alexa guys are saying that's one of the hottest pages on the internet right now (I counted it as #6 down there in the list). I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to guess that's generating a little ad revenue. Any number of their days is, as usual, preceeded by a "$".

You know from all the quaking about ACORN you'd think they ordered the registration gatherers to submit fake registrations. Of course this idea falls flat on its face when you consider a few things. ACORN themselves were the ones that notified the election officials about the false registrations. Fake registrations would do little but lose ACORN money.

This seed is amusing.

NYCC's own website posted this piece on September 30th - nearly 5 weeks ago now:

Over the past several years, while the big banks have destroyed our economy and working people have fought to make do with less and less, the richest one percent of Americans continue to take of more of the pie.

That's why I'm excited to announce that New York Communities for Change and many of our allies in community organizing and labor will be showing our support for #OccupyWallStreet next week.

Is this supposed to be some sort of 'scoop'? It's five weeks old - and NYCC posted it themselves.

Shame (as always) on Fox.

Maybe I missed a paragraph in the article. What is illegal about working to support a protest? Did the T-publicans make this illegal while I took a little time off?

That said, wouldn't anyone be shy if they had been burned with a dubious undercover operation like they were before? You are not paranoid if indeed they are really trying to get you!

Then too, it is a Fox "news" report. We have to really wait to see how much if any of the story is actually true.

I fail to see a problem here.

There's nothing illegal, unethical, or immoral about NYCC supporting OWS.

Organizations change their names all the time, and when they do they get rid of all of the crap with the old name on it.

Shredding documents? Organizations shred documents on a regular basis, especially near the end of the year.

Firing people for talking to the press without authorization? I hate to bring a simple fact of life to your attention, but most companies have that policy. MY company would fire me for speaking to a News Organization about Company Business without permission, and they're about as anti-OWS as you can get.

This story seems designed to put a sinister spin on common everyday activities.

Oh man and I absolutely LOVE that you throw in the Independent burn in your "post" :) You must be psychic man! Interesting segment ... Some on the Left say whats the problem with ACORN re-naming it self and being involved, with supporting OWS.. Which would mean Fox was right!

.And others call it a Lie! Fox made it up and it's not happening...

I guess since you can't even make up your minds... Its easy to attack the source and not bother with the content of the articles! Amazing the same people that dismiss Fox will quote Center for Progress , Media Matters and Center for Progress...Here's a hint PROGRESS in its name points hard LEFT!

Has ACORN morphed into different organizations? Just because they filed Chapter 7 doesn't mean they went away! The same people doing the same thing with a different name? Of course, I mean if they believed in what they were doing would it not be reasonable to assume they would continue to do it?

This seeded article is a follow on of ...

EXCLUSIVE: ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role in 'Occupy' Movement

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/10/26/exclusive-acorn-playing-behind-scenes-role-in-occupy-movement/

Bottom line... whether its ACORN or New York Communities for Change (NYCC) .. Lets see the same people in the same office with a different name? Is the same organization with a different name...Duh!

Or then there is the Working Family Party a ACORN of shoot... Do they count? And since they claim to have been a major organizer, with professional ORGANIZERS.. How do you deny that this is a AstroTurf movement?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8cBT_x22Jo

Working Families Party

New York's Working Families Party was first organized in 1998 by a coalition of labor unions, ACORN and other community organizations, members of the now-inactive national New Party, and a variety of public interest groups such as Citizen Action of New York.[citation needed] The party blends a culture of political organizing with unionism, 1960s idealism, and tactical pragmatism. The party's main issue concerns are jobs, health care, education and energy/environment. It has usually cross-endorsed Democratic or Republican candidates through fusion voting, but has occasionally run its own candidates.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_Families_Party

I just wonder why Progressives deny what they know to be true and documented ... Are they ashamed or embarrassed? Or BOTH?

Do they not know these things or are they just refusing to see it?

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2011/10/shocker-obamas-top-political-advisor-directly-linked-to-occupy-wall-street-protests/

I would ask them to not worry so much about the source .... Prove the statements wrong... It should not be about who reports it , it should be about whether the statement is true or not!

Lame. This article sounds like it's about Acorn dealing with a mole, trying to find out who it is that infiltrated their office as a Fox spy/infiltrator who is probably the un-named source for this fox news story. Why wouldn't progressive organizations step in and support OWS? What is wrong with that? I hope Soros steps in too with all his support too. MSNBC too, Current TV too. We need all the assistance we can get, soon enough we will be working with elected Democratic politicians too. There are robo calls discussing the reasons behind OWS with a final call to support OWS before the call ends, it's not like there is an attempt to convince anyone that there isn't a strong support/back bone developing for OWS which includes many progressive organizations.

It was the teaparty that acted/acts ashamed of their big money backbone, of which without they would have never gotten off the ground.

LeZi, getting paid to protest is the definition of astroturfing. Remember, this was a grass roots movement? So this kinda counters that description.

Well, once a real grass roots movement starts to grow, there will inevitability be weeds that sprout up. The paltry few that the NYCC might have paid is rather insignificant compared to the hundreds of thousands of OWS followers around America and the world. Like the T party being funded by the Koch brothers.

Its not that the original Tea Party was not a real grass roots movement, but when the Koch brothers bought them the Tea Party became the Koch brothers.

When the NYCC "owns" the OWS, get back to me. Maybe then you will understand why there IS an OWS and why it is growing to be a rather large, world wide party. Remember. OWS represents the 99%. Not just a few that want to pass birth laws and pay the rich that bought them out as with the Tea Party.

James ca.

So you conspiracy theory is that the people in the second video wearing all Black painting Anarchist signs and carrying Anarchist Black Flags.... are the police acting like Anarchists ...Do I have you correct?

LeZi

Long time no see....

No I believe the videos are real... The first? Wow a big surprise really that the Police would try to get people inside the protest to try to direct it ...Like maybe away from violence... Ya think..

The Second Video... Again, I have no problem saying the the Occupy Movement now has Anarchists that believe in the Black Bloc tactics within it... Do you?

But the Left was warned that these people were there and that they might think they could use them ... But they (the Anarchists) will not go away.. And will not be controlled! Nor will the Communists, Socialists, Union Organizers or other Community organizing type groups...

LeZi If I remember correctly, you were always one that would at least listen and then research! So listen and watch these and then judge for yourself...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuqsGotYzYM

The Anarchists truly believe they are a useful part of this Occupy movement... So don't kid yourself... As demonstrated here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPQ1nLSEx0U&feature=related

And this is what they really think of Liberals when Liberals are not listening...

Notice its the same guy....

http://www.youtube.com/user/thequeernews#p/u/52/p30hDXglsrA

The Occupy movement is so infiltrated and so many don't know it...And then People like James want to point to the Police .... INTERESTING!

Lets see James ....

So you conspiracy theory is that the people in the second video wearing all Black painting Anarchist signs and carrying Anarchist Black Flags.... are the police acting like Anarchists ...Do I have you correct?

Who they work for or who they represent is a good question, the only answer that is obvious is that at the OWS march followed by a night of molotov cocktails, the group of black bloc was clearly antagonistic to OWS and OWS protesters/marchers, threatening to shoot an OWS marcher at one point if they didn't back down from trying to stop Black Blocs' destruction, with amazingly no "uniformed" Police to be seen. Police are a good guess. A rouge faction of Police maybe? I dunno. I do know that this video shows Black Bloc is/are no friend(s) of OWS Oakland or the people who are participating in this social movement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86XhCwHhwn8-"Real" Police are nowhere to be seen - yet when a protester was hit by a car, Police showed up right away. We know undercover cops were present ( http://www.copblock.org/9777/cop-provocateurs-compromised-at-occupy-oakland/ ). It's very similar to another suspect Black Bloc infiltration of yet another progressive movement (this is Black Bloc does) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5G7aCgXtWg and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_mUf35DlLM, notice in the second one how Black Bloc has their way with destruction/mayhem/chaos including briefly taking a bank -when Police finally move in, Black Bloc just rushes past Police as Police rush a journalist instead of the Black Bloc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve2t5dXQk4E and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XgEI5dCrE add to the story.

This too http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2001/jul/23/globalisation.davidpallister.

Other anarchist groups and anti-globalisation protesters are suspicious about the black block's origins. In Italy, the Green party senator for Genoa, Francesco Martone, alleged that there was a history of collusion between the police and neo-fascists to discredit the left. "There is evidence that they have worked together to infiltrate the genuine protesters," he said.

Video evidence collected by protesters and the independent media suggests that men in black were seen getting out of police vans near protest marches. They were noted for never attacking the police or the steel wall around the red zone of the city.

An Italian communist MP, Luigi Malabarba, said yesterday that during the riot on Friday night, "I saw groups of German and French people dressed as demonstrators in black with iron bars inside the police station near the Piazza di Kennedy. Draw your own conclusions."

Here are news accounts concerning OWS and Black Bloc: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57319036/is-black-bloc-hijacking-occupy-oakland/

OK James I watched the Vid and payed attention when you asked me to ..

Now explain how that this video is evidence of this statement ...

FOXNEWS which funded, supported, advertised and coordinated every teabagger rally in the country!!

I saw where The Tea Party voiced support for Fox but nothing that can even remotely make the claim that Fox "funded" or "coordinated" "every teabagger rally in the country" ....

I am afraid you might need something more to prove anything even close to that statement!

I don't doubt there are other players on the Teaparty team - FauxNews is their star player who without, the Teaparty would be nowhere. If you remove any other sponsor/player from the Teaparty, the Teaparty still survives - If FauxNews did not exist and/or support the Teaparty with unabashed unambiguity - There would be no Teaparty - No FauxNews = No Teaparty.

Beck says you can "celebrate with Fox News" at any of four "FNC Tax Day Tea Parties"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9-12_Project

The 9-12 Project (or 9/12 Project, 912 Project) is a non-political group created by American television and radio personality Glenn Beck. It was launched on the Friday 13 March 2009 episode of Glenn Beck, the eponymous talk show on Fox News Channel.

OK James ...

You and your progressive friends obsession with anything Fox has to keep you up at night....

Your first link ...Maybe you missed it when I said

You want to say that Conservative commentators on Fox gave support to the Tea Party ...I will agree without question...

Fox commentators broadcasting their live programs from Tax Day Rallies...Really ? Yep you found the smoking gun that proves Fox Funds and Coordinates the Tea Party Rallies... Nation wide....

And the 9-12 project .... HAHAHA do some more research James! Which part of non-political do you have the most problem with?

And of the 9 12 which of them do you have the most trouble with....

The website lists the 9 Principles, accompanied by supporting quotations from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The 9 Principles are:

  1. America is good.
  2. I believe in God and He is the center of my life.
  3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
  4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
  5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
  6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
  7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
  8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
  9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

Or the 12 Values

The 12 Values are:

  1. Honesty
  2. Reverence
  3. Hope
  4. Thrift
  5. Humility
  6. Charity
  7. Sincerity
  8. Moderation
  9. Hard Work
  10. Courage
  11. Personal Responsibility
  12. Gratitude (originally Friendship)

Background...Read and Learn!

http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/29400/

Being Becks goal was to find agreement on 6 or 7 of the 9 Principals ...

Are you telling me that that that's not possible with you?

And which of the 12 Values you have a problem with?

James I will wait for your reply Please tell me which of the 9/12 you could not agree to!

Sorry I should clarify. People are acting like this is some sort of quality breaking news story and I am not getting it. So some people who might have been associated with Acorn showed up at the NYC protests. Well if I were to guess these people would agree with the protesters so to me it would not be a surprise for them to be there. So they are saying there were people on staff and told to go and were paid but that's only a handful of people who are at these protests. I'm not seeing how this means Acorn created the protests??

This is all a load of bull, Acorn was shut down as a government sponsored program in 2009 , even if it did still exist , it would be operating as a private non-profit group, so what's the big deal about that? And what exactly have these evil bastards done? They orchestrated the entire OWS? BIG DEAL.

So what! OWS is a peaceful protest, which like it or not is a Right guaranteed to them under this Constitution. Even if ACORN some how did start it all, ( A WORLD WIDE movement mind you) they are entirely with in the realm of legality to do so, your super PACs do FAR, FAR worse, yet we don't even mention those, but hey let's vilify a barely funded private organization that really is doing good. Research ACORN and tell me how the things they worked for were not noble, they had a purpose and that purpose was very good. Them being caught in corruption and being exposed was a good thing, we should have reformed the regulations and oversight on it, not end it.

Even if ACORN did start this (Which I disagree with) the millions now involved agreed to it, and we all have free minds and free will, these are people frustrated at a broken and corrupt system, we are taught from very little to believe our great land infallible among all the others, yet look at what has happened to the people who inhabit the most powerful and wealthiest nation on the planet. Equality has been sat aside for the price of money and that my friends is tyranny on the masses, that my friends is always cause for revolution of somekind, no joke just read history, in short people wouldn't even stop to listen to an ACORN dissident if things where like they should be, if things where actually MORALLY/Ethically right, not just financially profitable.

sorry I will end my rant here, lol this is too funny though. =)

Reasons to support the #occupy movement in Canada (Source: CCPA):

-Canada's richest 1% have doubled their income share between 1970 and 2007.

-$6.6 million a year is the average compensation for Canada's 100 best paid CEOs.

I thought the ACORN goal was to elect Obama in 2008.

Therefore the ACORN goal in 2012 would be to re-elect Obama.

Supporting OWS is definitely NOT going to elect OBAMA in 2012.

Obama got more campaign contributions from Wall Street just this year than any other politician EVER got cumulatively in their entire careers.

That fact alone means that the goals of OWS and the goals of Obama supporters are diametrically OPPOSED to each other, or in other words are POLAR OPPOSITES.

If "false news" and Rush were in charge of the rumour that Obama was getting all of Wall Street's cash, they would have jumped on the OWS bandwagon and they would be glad handing protesters left and right. Republicans were against the Wall Street bailout and so was OWS they have SO MUCH IN COMMON.

Yet, Republicans continue to spread the rumour that OWS is working for Obama. If Obama was that stupid he never would have won the election in 2008. Just like he ignored the union protests at the beginning of the year he ignores OWS, both organizations he does not support and is working his hardest to destroy any way he can without getting his hands dirty.

If the Republicains are having such a hard time picking a candidate who stands up for their values, perhaps they should consider supporting Obama.

You know the difference between the people and the organizers ...Right?

If Obama was that stupid he never would have won the election in 2008.

You should question the voting public that elected him not the man...

Just like he ignored the union protests at the beginning of the year he ignores OWS, both organizations he does not support and is working his hardest to destroy any way he can without getting his hands dirty.

So far from the truth you can't stand there and see the truth from there...

Big Labor wins every time with this president... Be it through Stimulus or the GM bail out ...The Unions always wins... I mean it was the Public sector Unions that got all that money to keep Teachers, Police, Fire and other Federal, State and Local UNION workers working ...was it Not?

If the Republicains are having such a hard time picking a candidate who stands up for their values, perhaps they should consider supporting Obama.

If you paid attention to the laws that have been passed since Obama became President, particularly the ones he championed, you will see a pronounced anti-labor bias, as well as a pro-business stance.

The Race to the Top legislation allows school districts and municipalities to invalidate contracts with unions by firing all the staff and then re-hiring only those teachers they choose provided they agree to a new contract and no longer belong to a union. This has been successfully used to destroy teachers unions in Rhode Island, and Michigan. Race to the Top also demands that all taxpayer funds be shared equally with any private "charter schools" and that private "charter schools" must have fewer regulations than public schools making them easier to establish. It also establishes merit pay for teachers based almost solely on how their students do on standardized tests. Schools are similarly graded on test scores and it affects the federal aid they get.

Obama-care threw out the public option in favor of requiring everyone to register with a private health insurance company picked for them by a private firm that markets health care plans for the private companies.

If the unions always win, how come the union membership in this country is at a 75 year low.

I didn't see Obama out there with the teachers, police and firefighters, and other federal and state union workers. His ringing words of support were that they had the right to protest. The same wholehearted words of support he gave to the OWS protesters. Unions didn't get all that money from the federal government to keep municipal union workers working because unions don't hire workers or fire workers, they negotiate contracts for workers, and some unions provide benefits to their workers.

Jim, here's how it works at FalseNews. First one of the right opinion goons like Limbaugh says something like, "ACORN is guilty of voter fraud." Then the "news" side of the outfit uses that liar as its unnamed "source." Then it goes back to the opinion goons (now comes the multiplier effect) who use FalseNews as it source for the "news" story. This isn't just my opinion. Journalistic research has shown this over and over. It's a scam of the lowest sort and it's designed just to sucker guys like you, making you think you've got some facts and it's all just a huge layered @!$%#-cake of lies.

Yes jackjack-712749 - ACORN no longer exists thanks to the gop/teabaggers. All ACORN ever did anyway was encourage folks to register to vote and to vote. Say what you will deniers, they do not have that kind of influence the faux teabagging morons would like you to believe.

        Well Steve...

Explain to all of us just why ACORN would be engaged in "voter registration fraud" if the intent was not to commit voter fraud? Just what the hell is the purpose?

And then explain to us why YOU would defend an organization that you seem to have admitted (since its been proven in court) was willfully engages in Voter Registration Fraud!

Why is it that you and so many others support an organization that has a clear history of Voter Registration Fraud?

If just one person that they registered fraudulently actually got to vote.... that means a eligible voter's vote was disenfranchised and their vote did not count.

Yet you and so many others on the Left support these people!

Steve... You like so many remind me so much like I just saw on MSNBC...

They said 80,000 jobs created and then said there needs to be over a 100,000 jobs be created every month just to stay the even.. YET....

.Did not question that the Administration says the unemployment rate went down...

Logic is not even part of the Lefts thought process ...

If you need to create 100,000 Plus ....jobs to stay even...How can 80,000 jobs LOWER the unemployment rate? Your negative 20,000 jobs and yet claim the jobless rate went down!

It's real simple Jim44(and other chicken little cluckers):

People(ACORN or their employees, or both), got paid for how many voter registrations they collected.

Some of them decided to not be thorough about verifying the registrants had actual legal rights to vote, or did so on purpose to make more $$.

Not even 1 of those who were falsely registered to vote, have been found guilty of actually getting into a voting booth an casting a vote. NOT SINGLE ONE.

Were there ACORN members guilty of registering non existent or people who weren't eligible? Yes.

Did it have any chance at affecting the actual vote. NO.

Those few incidences(percentage wise it was under 1% of all registeres voters), doesn't negate the fact that ACORN as a whole, had good intentions and have actually helped many average Americans.

Imagine if someone in your family was a criminal. How would you like it if everyone blamed your whole family for the actions of the bad family member? SOund fair to you?

kjmgirl I hate to disappoint you, but if you read the report from your link in msg.# 4.25 http://republicans.oversight.house.gov/images/stories/Reports/9-21-10_HUD_OIG_-_Acorn_Housing_Corproation_Evauluation_of_HUD_Housing_Expenditures.pdf The only beef with Acorn is that they didn't use open enough competition when contracting health care, and other services for their employees - that they didn't document hourly wages correctly by specifically stating by a hour by hour basis what exactly their employees were working on and the source of funding for whatever they were working on, because a portion of their funding was from the Gov and part of the requirements was to super track what employees are working on throughout the day to make sure that the grant money only goes to hours worked on Gov specified projects, and lastly about $13,000 dollars of overpay paid to employees or in their name for a short period after they left the organization. The Problems all involve issues with fine tuning administrative policy, with a conclusion of ways to fine tune policy, not claims of crime or corruption or voter fraud or voter registration fraud.

james - hate to disappoint you, but:

However, investigators determined with certainty that ACORN violated HUD laws and policies by spending nearly 80% of its “housing counseling” funds to pay the salaries of its employees, even after they were terminated. Between 2008 and 2009, the scandal-plagued leftist community organization illegally used $2.5 million of the $3.3 million it received from Uncle Sam to help financially struggling homeowners, investigators found.

Yeah, it's generally a GOOD IDEA to "fine tune" your policies when they violate laws.

No, I understand what a shell game is, I'm saying I really don't care and you being outraged about this makes me wonder why you care either.

I don't care if the left does it, the right does it, I honestly just don't care. We all know how these games are played and pretending that one side does it while the other side doesn't would be hypocritical.

I know where Obama's funds come from too, I know because I know one of his bundlers and have friends in the administration.

Everyone does it, it's how the system works, and that's why I don't care. Meanwhile while we're derping about this, real problems still remain and I think it's more important to focus on those.

"Following the publication of the videos, four different independent investigations by various state and city Attorneys General and the GAO released in 2009 and 2010 cleared ACORN, finding its employees had not engaged in criminal activities and that the organization had managed its federal funding appropriately, and calling the videos deceptively and selectively edited to present the workers in the worst possible light."

If the Government wants to Simulate job growth... Get the Fluck out of the way and let the system create jobs...

Government (stimulus) jobs cost money and are temporary... The last "stimulus" payed for teachers, Police and Fire Fighters... RIGHT? So new we need to do it again?

So are local Teachers, Police and Fire Fighters now Federal Government employees? If without Federal money they can't be payed ...THEY ARE!

I know which States receive more Federal Money than they contribute.

Red States Feed at Federal Trough, Blue States Supply the Feed

        Monday, September 27, 2004

The Tax Foundation has released a fascinating report showing which states benefit from federal tax and spending policies, and which states foot the bill.

The report shows that of the 32 states (and the District of Columbia) that are "winners" -- receiving more in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 76% are Red States that voted for George Bush in 2000. Indeed, 17 of the 20 (85%) states receiving the most federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Red States. Here are the Top 10 states that feed at the federal trough (with Red States highlighted in bold):

States Receiving Most in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid:

        1. D.C. ($6.17)
        2. North Dakota ($2.03)
        3. New Mexico ($1.89)
        4. Mississippi ($1.84)
        5. Alaska ($1.82)
        6. West Virginia ($1.74)
        7. Montana ($1.64)
        8. Alabama ($1.61)
        9. South Dakota ($1.59)
        10. Arkansas ($1.53)

In contrast, of the 16 states that are "losers" -- receiving less in federal spending than they pay in federal taxes -- 69% are Blue States that voted for Al Gore in 2000. Indeed, 11 of the 14 (79%) of the states receiving the least federal spending per dollar of federal taxes paid are Blue States. Here are the Top 10 states that supply feed for the federal trough (with Blue States highlighted in bold):

States Receiving Least in Federal Spending Per Dollar of Federal Taxes Paid:

        1. New Jersey ($0.62)
        2. Connecticut ($0.64)
        3. New Hampshire ($0.68)
        4. Nevada ($0.73)
        5. Illinois ($0.77)
        6. Minnesota ($0.77)
        7. Colorado ($0.79)
        8. Massachusetts ($0.79)
        9. California ($0.81)
        10. New York ($0.81)

Two states -- Florida and Oregon (coincidentally, the two closest states in the 2000 Presidential election) -- received $1.00 in federal spending for each $1.00 in federal taxes paid.

        Off topic,

        Go Cubbies,

I live in Missouri, raised in St. Louis, got a trivia question.

How many World Series has the Cubs won ? ****Grins****

Runner...that was kind of the point of my post. Maybe you should stay on the line, I hear common sense might be speaking next.

jackjack, do you think I give a flying crap about who has won the world series and when? If that is your attempt at an insult (which it obviously was) then its a pretty pathetic go at it. Your team won a series or two...so what? That must mean you are a better person than me...oh dear I value your insight so much that it has negatively impacted my life.

And runner...since its obvious that you have no ability to read sarcasm without a tag.... /s

and congratulations on being raised in an area of America that consistently ranks at the bottom tier in education...it certainly shows

"congratulations on being raised in an area of America that consistently ranks at the bottom tier in education...it certainly shows"

        Pot meet kettle.

BTW the answer is 11. Cubs 0

Oh yeah, I went to a private school. Epic fail.

Wow...I'm humbled and absolutely embarassed. Again...who you root for in sports means nothing to me. I don't look up to or down on anyone because of what team they follow.

How does me being a Cubs fan have any bearing on the validity of your or my statements?

Are you a better person than anyone who roots for a team that has less World Series wins than your beloved team? Exactly what is the purpose of attempting to insult me via who you root for?

And how does going to a private school...strike that, how does claiming you went to a private school give any credence to your education?

They dont rate private schools. Look up CBC in St. Louis. I graduated in the class of `78.

That ranks (and I mean that in all senses of the word) right down there with Bush's little comedy skit about lying about WMDs. Let's see, at last count over 4500 U.S. soldiers and civilians and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi died because of that hilarious joke. You must be so proud of you support for all that needless killing.

Jupiter -ALL media steers your beliefs - that's what they do. It's called RATINGS. I occassionally watch fox NATIONAL news - but quickly flip channels when Sean Hannity is on. I think Fox does a very good job with their actual NEWS, but I do not agree with some of the opinion shows. I'm pretty sure that everyone who watches Fox is well aware of what is a NEWS show and what is an opinion show.

I can say the same exact thing about Mr Ed, the talking horse's ass and Rachel Maddow.

I would hope that people are smart enough (yeah, right) to be able to distinguish between opinion and fact. That being said, even Glenn Beck gets something right at least once a month.

Beck is running a web-based pay-for-video site now.

Nope...Wrong ..missed the mark... And most likely intentionally misleading...

Pay for view is a single viewing of an event... A Membership which allows access for a month or a agreed upon time period is not "pay for view" ...

You pay for Internet, cable , a telephone...? No different! You pay for a service ... for a designated period of time... Pay - for - use ....

Same kind of business model as internet porn, only with less believable plots..

Lets see... You seem to have a better understanding than I of how "internet porn" works...

Some might wonder how it is you have such great personal knowledge of their business model... But that seems like a personal thing so I will not request information as to how it is you seem to have such a deep personal knowledge of the internet PORN business model!

But might I ask a question?

Does any service I use that I pay for by the month or for a set period of time... EQUAL the same business model of INTERNET PORN...? As you suggest Becks business uses?

Since I pay for my internet access by the month are they then also using this same model? Because I also pay for my Phone and Cable, Electricity and water by the month ...are they all using this same INTERNET PORN Business model? I pay an amount to have a service provided...

But it was a nice try to attempt to demean Becks new service! But IMHO very transparent... Because it would seem by your logic all business that use a membership or bill monthly for a service are equal to the INTERNET PORN Industry ....

So anyone that has a Sam's membership in your mind is the same as someone that is a member of a INTERNET Porn site? I get it!

Thanks for a peek into your view of your fellow Americans...

Really ...PROVE IT!!! I challenge you ...or anyone else to PROVE THAT STATEMENT!

And I Also challenge those that are on the left that care about fairness... to Stand up and comment on that COMMENT!

That I " say something nasty about "The Left" in almost every post you ever make"

Lets see who will stand up and be honest!

          Is Jupiter2..... RIGHT?

And what other "entertainer" can you name here that makes you pay to view them?

What other person has their own Internet TV connection? The answer would be NONE!

So your comparing apples to an empty fruit basket are you not? Beck has broken into a whole new media... And some might think it petty to attack someone for doing such!

So tell me Jupiter2 just what Progressive is on the Internet with a live streaming daily radio show? That also has an after the show.. show for another hour... Then an hour of classic TV (oldies) ..then a show geared at children and then finishes the day with a 2 hour Live Internet streamed TV show?Just like the Progressives ..Right?

That also has Documentaries that you can watch on demand, and has their National rated #3 syndicated Radio Show on a 6 camera live web feed? That also has a Web Feed live blog that allows viewers to comment during the show? All of which is available ON DEMAND ... On Ifone or Ipad...

          Let me know !

And what other "entertainer" can you name here that makes you pay to view them?

No one "makes you pay" ... Well other than the government....

Not being a mindless person..Spending my money is something I ACTIVELY do...I am not MADE to do it?

Does someone MAKE you watch certain TV Channels? Do you have cable? Do they Make you pay for certain channels?

If not just what makes you think I or anyone else is made to pay to watch Beck?

Zero logic in your argument! Thank You, and have a great Day!

jmorris didn't say pay FOR view, or pay-per-view.

          he/she said pay for video.

With Beck, you could call it pay-for-crap, pay-for-theatrics, pay-for-bullsh*t, or pay-for-rhetoric, and they would all be accurate descriptions.

Keep on deflecting from Beck's making money of the sheep for BS, Jim.

illegitimae non carborundum - - - Actually when G. Beck began first began sharing the fact that gold was going to see a major increase in value back when I started on his and others recommendations to start investing in gold, it was at $680.00 per oz. (I think I waited until it was around $700.00 + before I began). The last time I checked though it was around $1,700.00 per oz. ($1,650-$1,750). Currently I've made around $35,000 in profit (even after cashing in a small amount after it hit $1,900.00 to help my son out).

So, you ask " How's that Goldline stock holding up there?" I can answer that ... "Quite well thank you."

Maybe you'd do better in investing in "Weiner" stock. That is Anthony Weiner stock mind you. (lol)

          he/she said pay for video

Which would demonstrate that they don't really know what they are talking about ...Since it is broadcast LIVE!!!!!

Video gives the impression that it is a recorded event, does it not?

With Beck, you could call it pay-for-crap, pay-for-theatrics, pay-for-bullsh*t, or pay-for-rhetoric, and they would all be accurate descriptions.

And you know this how exactly? Have you watched it or do you always take other peoples word for things and allow them to tell you what to think and say?

Keep on deflecting from Beck's making money of the sheep for BS, Jim.

Capitalism is a wonderful thing ... isn't it... But more to you "deflecting" comment... I didn't bring up Beck...... jmorris did!

Howzat Goldline stock holding up there, Jim?

Well, being Goldline International Inc is a PRIVATELY owned company and is not traded on the stock exchange... No one owns their stock! But, it seems you didn't know that, now did you? Kind of takes all the sting out of your comment, being its a wrong assumption hahaha !

But as Ron has pointed out ... and you can play all the word games you want ! But, the price of gold is a world wide traded commodity ...Its not a secret at its value ... Quite simple subtract what you payed for it for what its current value is and ...BAM ...

Even Progressives should be able to understand if you buy something at $700 and sell it for $1700 ....It was a good investment!

I can't understand how it is Progressives keep bringing this subject up when it makes them look so foolish!

Just how was making that big a profit ...Make Beck look bad? Gold in the last year has gone up over 27% ... Name me an investment that has made that much profit on an investment! And over 181% in the last 5 years...

This is an argument that you can't win (the numbers tell their own story) and makes many look foolish for keep bringing it up! Beck recommending something that made many people a lo9t of money... and trying to tell them it was a sham is well a losing argument! And says more about them then Beck or those that took advantage of his advice...

Tell me which was foolish the person that ridicule Beck or the one that bought Gold at $700 an OZ that is now worth $1.754 an OZ..?

Because you have noting and I have over doubled my investment...

Are you trying to impress me or convince yourself?

          Neither....

Just like Beck! Who says...Its not for everyone..Says he doesn't buy it as investment but as insurance... Against Hyper-inflation... Having something of values versus a piece of paper that can have zero value...

Tell me whats wrong with that?

But.... Find out for yourself ... If you believe in God pray on it and do what is best FOR YOU! Its your money and you get to make your choice.... CHOICE is the mantra of the Left is it not?

          Its really just that simple...

When something makes me mad first i have to get honest with myself about what I am mad about if something actually challenges my beliefs I need to check what i believe.

The media does not get me too mad because I am as firm as possible on what I believe to be true. If something changes my mind it is not usually the media that makes me do it.

If the media started being good to Ron Paul I might think he had sold out.

Unfortunately we all have to get our information somewhere and it is too easy to make the choice to only listen to the media outlets that are saying what we individually want to hear. They all know that and pander to it, instead of just reporting events as things happen. So we are left to sift through the crap and try to find nuggets of truth. I do believe however that FAUX is the worst offender of all. Pity those that are either too lazy or too ignorant to look past the hype and spin and that DO allow the media to tell them what they should think and believe.

That's what makes me MAD. It makes my blood boil. (Not good for the BP!)

I find it appalling that the conservative media continues to demonize the non-existent ACORN, mainly because of the connection between it and President Obama. Indeed, ACORN had some internal problems, but the voter fraud issue did not exist, nor did they work with people to smuggle young children. Additionally, they followed the law by submitting fraudulent voter registrations to the state. Morever, before the 2008 election, ACORN had been praised by Republicans and Democrats for their work with the underpriveleged and legal immigrants.

but the voter fraud issue did not exist,

          Really?

On Monday, Nevada officials charged Acorn, its regional director and its Las Vegas field director with submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms last year. Larry Lomax, the registrar of voters in Las Vegas, says he believes 48% of Acorn's forms "are clearly fraudulent." On Thursday, prosecutors in Pittsburgh, Pa., also charged seven Acorn employees with filing hundreds of fraudulent voter registrations before last year's general election.

          and..

Acorn's relationship to the Obama campaign is a matter of public record. Last year, Citizens Consulting Inc., the umbrella group controlling Acorn, was paid $832,000 by the Obama campaign for get-out-the-vote efforts in key primary states. In filings with the Federal Election Commission, the campaign listed the payments as "staging, sound, lighting," only correcting them after reporters from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review revealed their true nature.

Mr. Obama distanced himself from the group's scandals last year, saying "We don't need Acorn's help." Nevertheless, he got his start as a community organizer at Acorn's side. In 1992, he headed a registration effort for Project Vote, an Acorn partner at the time. In 1995, he represented Acorn in a key case upholding the new Motor Voter Act -- the very law whose mandated postcard registration system Acorn workers use to flood election offices with bogus registrations.

            You Asked For It!

Obama re-election team isn't orchestrating this.

The Occupy movement is an open source movement. The 'leadership' changes every day, and everyone understands how this works. Moreover, this is driving police stark-raving mad. There is no one person or committee of people that they can harass and/or intimidate. And as the movement is peaceable, the police are denied any effective role. The violence and vicil disruption occurs entirely on THEIR side of the fences that they erect. The POLICE are the lawbreakers and wrongdoers. THEY have set themselves against the people. And with each act of terrorism against the population, the movement grows. The more severe and diabolical are the police attacks on unarmed civilians, the more quickly the movement will grow until it reaches critical mass and then leads to a nation united in its refusal to fear, respect, serve, sustain, obey -- or above all, believe -- its government.

Essentially, this isn't a partizan thing at all. It is about giving the state a bill of divorce. We can have our own country. We don't need our current 'leaders.' We don't need their parties, promises, Presidents, elections, juridical and court system, monetary system, domestic policy and consumerism, foreign policy and militarism. We don't need their constitution, their past with its sainted heroes, and we don't need its beatific vision of glories that will never be.

Least of all, Castor Bridge, do we need Y - O- U.

We have the right to be a people. We have the right to create new institutions and processes of state. We have the right to create new, legal structures. We have the right to articulate, pursue and realize those policies necessary to sustain life and communities. We don't need your permission to do this. We don't need to ask. It is ours. We're taking it.

All this is strategically brilliant. Moreover, the Occupy movement has refused to give a hearing to Charlie Rangel, other Democratic figures, as well as trade union bosses.

Did I mention, Castor, that this isn't about partisanship?

I suppose you can mention it. SEIU is a great thing for the workers and President Obama worked as a community leader/ organizer. You are free to mention his dedication to the workers of America any time you want.

I was just listening today to a story on NPR (I know RWers don't believe in them!) about workers, I think they were talking about in the prisons and were comparing the workers in the state prison system and the "outsourced" prison systems in the same states.

It seems as though the State workers had better pay, medical retirement and working conditions than the private businesses outsourced by the state. That did not surprise me, but then came the fine print that you will not hear on "Fox" type of programing.

Interesting enough, the savings that the private businesses made by cutting the workers benefits WERE NOT passed on to the states.

So that is the way it goes. The anti labor elected officials outsource their business to their friends and supporters, they then pay about the same, and the new owners slash benefits from the workers and put it into their pockets.

So where is the saving for the states? This is a good example of Right Wing Business Logic being put into practice. It is happening to the school systems in my own state as we speak. It is happening in ALL of the Tea Party states. Is it happening in the more liberal states? I don't know of any, do you?

Sorry to bust in on your thread 800, but this really was stretching the "spin" a bit too much.

first off, the thread is about acorn supposedly firing workers and shredding documents. there is nothing in the piece that suggests that the allegations are anything more than hearsay. that being said, the obama ties to acorn are known, and have largely been found to be inconsequential. if someone has proof that he has been extensively involved with them in recent years, then have at it. however, even if you find this proof, i would probably reply, okay, but what does that have to do with the price of beans? it was, at best, a moot point, so it would be a hollow victory anyway.

then this is almost not worth commenting upon. it is an aside of an aside. this is supposed to be somewhat like debate. posting off-topic comments to bolster one's argument is not suggested, and then jim44 took it another degree away. this isn't six degrees of obama criticisms. the thread is about the supposed acorn involvement with the occupy movement. comment #23 is somewhat ridiculous, and now i am trapped in some crazy vortex of insanity.

800 lb. gorilla - - - I really haven't had much experience communicating with you on the vine, so I will take Jim44's word that you are for the most part an intellectually honest individual. Your assessment though, flies in the face of reality i.e. you not acknowledging the very intimate relationship with ACORN and its off chutes of Obama (up until their ties were shed light upon and he had to go backdoor).

Jim44 beat me to it providing some of the more obvious video's of Obama's close relationship with them and other like-minded organizations (of which there are hundreds of videos provided which speak to the truth of the matter). Jim44 is very good at documenting and taking time to verify to people things they may or may not know (or intentionally overlook or misrepresent) and I always commend him for that

But, let's not forget that Obama (as ACORN's lawyer), sued Citibank in 1994 (Buycks-Roberson case), to force Citibank into giving sub prime loans to home buyers with poor credit ratings, setting the stage for the mortgage meltdown which still plagues our society today.

There are multitudes of examples of Obama standing before meetings of ACORN and other community organizers promising them his full support if he became President.

I hope that Jim44 and I have satisfactorily honored your request to quote "provide your evidence of the nefarious obama/acorn ties". It really doesn't take too much searching on the Internet to find such references (even though many of the most damaging ones have been scrubbed by Obama supporters and the DNC).

One video though that I believe Jim44 did not cover was a video that is still available on U-Tube regarding the subject ...

            • OBAMA CAUGHT SAYING ACORN AND FRIENDS WILL SHAPE HIS PRESIDENTIAL AGENDA

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vJcVgJhNaU&feature=player_detailpage

Partly because of his early mentoring by Frank Marshall and his close association and ties with such individuals like Bill Ayers, Van Jones, Andy Stern, Cass Susstein and Richard Trumka (just to name a few), I have an extremely hard time believing that Obama wants to see a strong America, and would rather facilitate a detrimental "change" to our country which would cripple America now and well into its future or possible demise.

This change is not about just getting rid of a few "capitalists" who cause harm to our financial well being or a reform in the regulations which govern Wall St. practices. It is about "fundamentally" changing America which has been a strong and benevolent leader in the world for almost a century (definitely since after the 2nd World War).

since obama really had very little to do with acorn ever.

okay, you guys got me. i should have put "very little, of consequence,".

yes, there are ties, but they are not that nefarious, which was my point. his most strong ties are from some training he provided, and a court case he was involved with in the 1990s. except for the money, according to cnn, for the voter canvassing during the primaries, i haven't seen a lot in more recent years. he can tell community organization groups that he will include them in the discussion of shaping america's agenda. that is his right, and is a wise thing. everyone should be included in the discussion.

on the larger point, do the both of you contend that obama administration is the one pulling the strings for the occupy movement? there is no evidence that the obama administration is orchestrating the occupy movement, which is how we got here. and there is no evidence that he had anything to do with workers from acorn creating false registration lists. did he tell people to put troy aikman, michael irvin, and emmitt smith, on the registration lists? if not, then this is really a strawman. you guys got me on semantics on one statement in a sub-thread, which you have clearly lost. unless you were just cherry-picking and blasting somewhat erroneous statements. i have no problem with that. good job, then.

i was really just making an offhand comment on a ridiculous post on this thread. i can admit that i did not put much thought into it.
