It has been a long time coming, but the Obama Administration has now officially banned the truth. Deputy U.S. Attorney General James Cole declared Wednesday at a conference in Washington that he had “recently directed all components of the Department of Justice to re-evaluate their training efforts in a range of areas, from community outreach to national security.” This “reevaluation” will remove all references to Islam in connection with any examination of Islamic jihad terror activity. The Obama Administration has now placed off-limits any investigation of the beliefs, motives and goals of jihad terrorists.

Dwight C. Holton, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, emphasized that training materials for the FBI would be purged of everything politically incorrect: “I want to be perfectly clear about this: training materials that portray Islam as a religion of violence or with a tendency towards violence are wrong, they are offensive, and they are contrary to everything that this president, this attorney general and Department of Justice stands for. They will not be tolerated.”

We need to find ways of making it easier to stop them, instead of going all Politically Correct on them. Certainly one definition of a cult is that members are not free to opt out if they choose to do so – and it was Muhammad who enunciated Islam’s notorious death penalty for apostasy by saying, “Whoever changes his Islamic religion, then kill him.” (Bukhari 9.84.57). Also, there are several celebrated incidents in which Muhammad lashed out violently against his opponents, ordering the murder of several people for the crime of making fun of him — including the poet Abu Afak, who was over one hundred years old, and the poetess Asma bint Marwan. Abu Afak was killed in his sleep, in response to Muhammad’s question, “Who will avenge me on this scoundrel?” Similarly, Muhammad on another occasion cried out, “Will no one rid me of this daughter of Marwan?” One of his followers, Umayr ibn Adi, went to her house that night, where he found her sleeping next to her children. The youngest, a nursing babe, was in her arms. But that didn’t stop Umayr from murdering her and the baby as well. Muhammad commended him: “You have done a great service to Allah and His Messenger, Umayr!” (Ibn Ishaq, 674-676).

Thank God that there are people like Mr. Cole in these positions. They will turn a deaf ear to the bigots and islamophobes who would have us do what President Bush honorably said we would not do, target Muslims because they are Muslims. Anyone who decries the protection of the freedom of all who practice their faith really has no business calling themselves people of faith. Unless that faith is a bigoted, hateful perversion of some other faith. Thanks, Elaine, for the link to the speech. It was a wonderful reaffirmation of what the Department of Justice is supposed to stand for and reminded me that despite the things I disagreed with about President Bush, he was right when he promised that our war on terror would be a war on terror and not a war on Islam.

I wouldn't call it an "excuse". A lot of what they publish falls apart when you fact check claims. A lot of their claims are extreme exaggerations, other times its statements with just question marks at the end. Their "Man of the Year" are individuals who have been cheating, lying, or have been fined and punished in some how, essentially all crooks.

Most Americans reject the bigotry that suggests that all Muslims are suspect. Most Americans understand that we were attacked by people, and are fighting people, who pervert their faith. Most Americans understand that more Muslims have died fighting extremist terrorists of that faith and more Muslims have been the victims of that terrorism. Most Americans are intelligent enough to understand these things and support a President who takes our fight directly at those who would harm us rather than condemn all billion and a half muslims around the world, the vast majority of who share our desire to defeat terrorism. Finally, most American realize that those who would have us equate terrorist with Muslim are the best friends that the terrorists have.

Elaine: Although your comment was collapsed, wrongly I might add, in 1.10 you refer to the decision in florida regarding a dispute between two factions in a muslim mosque. Your understanding of what happened there is, not surprisingly, inaccurate. As most religious groups do, this Mosque has internal rules regarding disputes. Those rules are based on their faith. KInd of like the canon law in the Catholic faith or principles from the Torah for Jews. The Mosque's members agreed that any disputes would be resolved consistent with their faith. THis happens often when a small group wants to break off from a larger congregation. It has happened a lot with more conservatives Episcopalians broke from the church over the ordination of gay people. When that happens, what is done with the real estate; the churches, often ends up in court. What the courts have said, as this Florida court said with regard to this dispute over the mosque, is that those disputes have to be decided applying the tenets or law of that faith. In the Florida case both sides agreed to arbitrate their dispute applying principles of their faith. The side that lost, sought to overturn the decision they agree to abide by. The Court simply said that they had to abide by their agreement. The court did not apply sharia law. it simply said that the secular courts have to respect the right of people of any faith to resolve their internal disputes according to their faith. In other words, your description of this decision as resulting in the application of SHaria law here so laughably wrong.

The two parties reportedly agreed ahead of time to use an imam and Islamic Law to resolve any potential differences through arbitration. So Nielsen only referenced Islamic law in deciding whether the two parties could resolve their differences through arbitration. He ruled they could.

It really helps when you read the article. As with any other asinine story about the invasion of sharia law in the us: any mention of sharia law being used is being used for civil matters, not criminal. Even when these dumba$$ stories started making their rounds while I was in Afghanistan last year (i.e. the Daily Mail from the UK) the story specifically stated in the beginning that the use of the laws were for CIVIL THRID-PARTY ARBITRATION PURPOSES only. Some people, however, are so stuck in their fear mongering ways that simple reading comprehension tends to get in their way.

The US has fallen so far from what it was capable of. All of the great things we've done as a nation are just drowning in the petty racism and ignorance of the vocal minority.

To be a devout Muslim is synonymous to insanity. If any logical intelligent human being could believe in that centuries old fairy tale of a crazy man and believe it as fact.. without ANY proof whatsoever.. well then... a large portion of mankind are not only stuck mentally in the past but not moving forward either. Sad really. Brain washing is alive in well in the World to a tune of at least 1+ Billion.

This is the correct direction that the FBI is going. By taking away any reference to one's religion, it becomes mighty easier to prosecute. What are you left with? Violence. Ipso post facto, conviction.

Well, this Mr. Holden is quite an interesting fellow. The above quotation reveals that our current president and other high governmental powers-that-be condone censorship and will do anything and everything to suppress our First Amendment rights to free speech. This easily begs the following question to be asked:

What are Obama and his comrades so afraid of that they will blatantly deny constitutional rights and "purge" official documents "of everything politically incorrect?"

The whole reason Islam is being blamed for terrorism is because of 9/11. Before we just had the Uni-bomber/ Ted Kazinski (christian) and Timothy McVae (christian) and not a peep about Muslim terrorists. Then Saudi hijackers fly planes into a building and it's all Muslim.

I think this proves nothing more than with religion ANY extreme is bad. No matter if it's Christians bombing abortion clinics or Muslims flying planes into buildings. Their beliefs outweigh reality and THAT is a bad combination.

I thought that the headline, regardless of whether it was from the original article or from the seeder, had to accurately reflect what was in the article. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. He made the law review, which correlates to the top 10 percent of his class. The top 10 percent graduate Magna. He was also voted president of the Harvard Law Review, which is predicated on ability and brains. He didn't have family connections to get him in, nor family money to buy him that spot. Dumb people usually don't get accepted into Harvard Law School, don't make the law review, don't become president of the law review, and don't graduate Magna.

Well, sometimes I think we HAVE gone too far regarding the potential Muslim threat in America (ONLY with respect to American citizens who happen to be Muslims). But I have to compare this to the No Child Left Behind law which resulted only in lowering the educational standards of Americans. Now we are lowering the training standards of the FBI and the entire Dept of Justice. How can that help up in the long run? Will it make America safer? I doubt that.

So now we have the Patriot Act (unconstitutional and limiting rights of American Citizens) we have the TSA (probably unconstitituional and violating the rights of American Citizens) and NOW we have this crap. Apparently, we are going to have to give the various governmental agencies even MORE police power over citizens since we're not going to train them to see exactly who IS a threat and how to deal with it.

Here's a thought - why not just assume everyone is a terrorist and treat us all accordingly? (/sarc)

I see the Obama administration are providing those excuses necessary for law enforcement failure. This is part of the larger push towards a blameless government and eventually society. In other words a system whereby no one can be held accountable because we are all to blame for whatever incident. A system, by the by, which will allow rampant and unchecked abuse. Sticking their collective heads in the sand about the intentions of radical Islam has been the hallmark of every administration since I was born. Radical Islam has proven time and again that they are patient, willing to make the most extreme of sacrifices, have the capability to get inside any system, and posses the capability to get extremely close to their intended targets. They are even now using the tenets of American foreign policy to attain their own goals, Egypt, Lybia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Syria, Pakistan. All could very well be under the rule of radical Islam in the very near future. In our zealous quest to overthrow "tyrants" we have fundamentally misunderstood the role these tyrants played in reining in and exerting control over radical Islam. I fear, that in our ever present arrogance, we have made grave mistakes in the middle east. And the price for those mistakes will paid for in blood. But that's just me.

Nice talking point. I'd love to know your experience with such knowledge? Having been to both Iraq and Afghanistan, not every family over there has an arsenal hidden in their dirt huts. That's like saying that every hick and yokel in the backwoods is hiding an arsenal in their homes. Let me tell you one thing: whoever it was that shot George Tiller as he entered church this morning was no Christian. (That person has been identified as Scott Roeder, a member of Operation Rescue, by at least one local news outlet.)

I'll leave it to other, more knowledgeable commentators to say how the rhetoric of Operation Rescue and other right-wing organizations may have created the atmosphere necessary for such a crime. Sara Robinson and Fred Clarkson have covered that ground pretty well. I'll pass as well on the question of whether Tiller's assassination constitutes domestic terrorism. I think it does, but I'm not qualified to make such assessments.

Can't we get back to the topic at hand - whether or not it is important for the Dept of Justice to be teaching EVERY POSSIBLE SCENARIO to their people for the targeting and removal of Terrorists of ANY race, creed, nationality or religion?

Can we feel safer when we make such training "politically correct?"

God, you are acting like a bunch of second graders on the friggin playground! OK, here's the bottom line - there are peace-loving freedom loving AMERICA loving Muslims in the USA. There are a small number of America-hating, war-mongering Muslims in the world. (just as there are American-hating people within ANY group)

The "scalping barbarians" excuse was used to justify the land grabs and violations of the treaties by the USA and citizens of the USA. Do I want to see Muslims treated the same as we did American Indians during that time? No, I don't. Fundamentalist has to do with what a person/group believes. Radical has to do with what a person/group advocates and participates in. Learn to separate the two and you'll make a lot more sense - address the problem, not what you presume motivates it.

At some point what is happening over there will spread over here, if we don't take steps to stop it from reaching here. However, we have a problem with the significant numbers of Muslims that have emigrated here from many of these countries, either fleeing the governments that were overthrown or for other reasons. We have had Muslim clerics from here trying to get Sharia law enacted here. We actually have had US born Muslims go to other countries and help out Al Qaida. The evidence is strong that Islamic extremism is a WORLD problem not a Middle Eastern or Western problem. We need a comprehensive program to eliminate the extremism in Islam and being Politically Correct isn't the way to go.

However we have to find the criteria by which they can be applied to the Islamic issue so that law enforcement can be properly trained. JM, let me expand on that. The problem is Middle Eastern militants, some of whom are Islamist, like the Taliban. Most other terror groups have no religious component at all, though they do tend to use religion as a means of justification and recruiting. Hamas and Hizb'allah, for example, are pissed off at Israel, because they feel the creation of that nation pushed them off their land. The conflict is purely political, though both sides paint it as, at least partly, religious. Al Qaida is pissed off about what they see as western Imperialism. We (the US, Britain, France) have been meddling in their affairs for 300 years, and they're trying to end that.

All of these groups have different grievances and different targets, but they do have one thing in common - they target civilians, which is what makes them terrorists, and none of them do what they do "in the name of Islam," with the exception of the Taliban, who are trying to set up an Islamic theocracy in Afghanistan.

So if I had to pick a single source for their anger...it would be us - the West. We need to stop invading their countries, deposing their leaders, installing our own puppet governments, controlling their economies, etc. And they need to stop targeting civilians.

This move by the administration is in no way 'politically correct.' It's simply telling the truth.

Sorry, but not only are you wrong, but you've expressed an incredibly naive viewpoint. Look, these various militant groups employ reprehensible tactics, but many of their grievances are legitimate, and Islam has nothing to do with it.

People in the west like to point to ME terror groups while ignoring those in the west, or those who are not Muslim. The IRA? Same gripe as Hamas. Both feel that they are occupied by a foreign power. The LRA - no different than the Taliban. Trying to set up a theocracy, though in the case of the LRA, a Christian theocracy. And the list goes on.

Terrorism is a political tactic that hides behind religion or nationalism, and anyone who looks deeper than the surface can see that.

Hell, al Qaida even announced their reasons for the 9/11 attacks, and none of them were religious. Unfortunately, it seems no one listened.

Qouting Churchill? Was anyone ever more Imperialist than Churchill? This was a PM who saw his empire dwindling, and it scared the hell out of him. It used to be said that the sun never set on the British Empire. At one time they owned the world, and some people, like Churchill, thought they still should.

First of all they're not radical, they're reactionary. Second, what dreams of conquest? When was the last time a Muslim government invaded a non-Muslim nation with the goal of making it a part of the Islamic world?

Besides, I was attributing their anger to the actions of the western world, and that is the cause of it. We've pissed them off too many times, and until we admit that, we'll continue to do so. These conflicts are not one-sided.

Dennis, I have a copy of the Quran. I have taken considerable time to review it and discuss it with a friend of mine, who is a devout Moslem. He actually gave me the book as a gift.

I think if you take the time to study and consider the various interpretations, your views may be different. The theme of worldwide Islamic conquest is a theme throughout the Quran.

I am truly sorry that your views about Churchill are so negative. He was an imperfect warrior, but a great leader during our "darkest" time. I don't dispose of his words as easily as you.

Aside from the fact that the Ottoman Empire effectively ended in 1919, to say it was inspired and sustained by Islam is just wrong. Like all empires, it was inspired by, and sustained through power. What you've said is tantamount to saying the British Empire was inspired and sustained by the Anglican Church.

Resources, JM. Empires are built and sustained over control of resources. Nevertheless, how does an empire that ended nearly a century ago prove your assertion that Muslims today have 'dreams of conquest?'

Turkey has indeed moved forward with secularization, albeit at a slower pace than the west. Turkey is not similar to Iran, Saudi Arabia or other fundamentalist styled governments of the ME. My focus is not really on Turkey, but on it's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire.

I know that the empire was already broken and "ended", but as part of a treaty, The Grand National Assembly of Turkey was officially declared the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923...that marked the official end, unless I'm mistaken.

I don't know how you can ignore the powerful Islamic influences that existed then and now (in some countries). The Ottoman empire sustained power over control of it's resources, i.e., it's people.

Doesn't the world famous Hagia Sophia represent Islamic power? If it wasn't for forward thinking Turks, this beautiful building would not have been converted to a museum.

I can't prove my assertion. I can only form an opinion, based on what I've read and what I've experienced. Based on my investigation, I can understand how dangerous radical Islamic movements are spawned from a strict interpretation of the Quran. Fundamentalism is not a unique flaw of Islam nor Christianity. Both, at times, share disgraceful histories and have text that justify bad behavior.

Anything is possible, but I don't believe that to be the case. My opinions are formed by extensive research, as well as life experience.

Turkey has indeed moved forward with secularization, albeit at a slower pace than the west.

Turkey has done a good job at achieving secularism. At only 88 years old, there is total separation of religion and government. At the same age, we were in the middle of a civil war.

There is a very simple explanation to why we don't see any Islamic conquests today. Simply because not one Islamic nation has enough power to do so. And here where my salad which you did not understand clears up.

In early Islamic history, when Muhammad was weak, and could not invade the strong empires surrounding him, he used the tactic of invading the smaller tribes living around him, and when the Islamic empire grew strong, we saw the conquests of the two greatest empires in the region. The very same thing is happening today. None of the Islamic nations is strong enough to be a great power, so Muslims are spreading around the Western world, growing in numbers,, as well as power, and we already started to see trials to conquests some countries from within, like what is happening today in Europe.

I've been reading Pipes, Spencer, et al. for nearly a decade. You simply say the same things they do...at times, word for word.

Are you also trying to tell me that the information in both Al Qur'an and hadiths are erroneous information?!

What if I were to tell you that the word 'pray' now means kill? The Bible would be a whole different book, right? That's what Pipes and Spencer have done, and you've fallen for it. They took a noble concept like jihad, and changed the meaning to "Holy War." They told you taqiyya applies to all Muslims (it doesn't) and told you it means deception, lying (it doesn't). And so on.

If you buy their definitions (as you have), the Quran becomes downright scary...but their definitions are all flat out lies.

By the way, you've said before that you are a Christian. When Peter denied knowing Jesus on the night he was arrested (three times) THAT was taqiyya. A denial of faith for the greater good.

For your information, I don't know any of those people and never listened to them or read what they wrote.

lol. Look at the first link. You correctly provide a list of three stages. Every other word in the article is your interpretation. Without that interpretation, the article would be about 10 words long.

Call it commenting, explanation, interpretation - whatever you want...you give Islamic terms followed by YOUR definitions and explanations, which are almost always wrong.

To tell you the truth, I don't think you have, or your ever had some solid arguments to present here on the vine, because if you had, it would have occurred to you, as it did to me and many others, to put those undeniable facts of yours in forms of topics, and being discussed by many of us, also being ready to be linked to when needed just as I did.

You are very good at jumping on topics and diluting them by trying to policies everything Islamists do, but you don't have any solid Islamic material, to prove your claims.

foster incivility? Just my opinion, but neither comment invites support - each implies persecution by organized bullies, victimization. Snark/sarcasm have their place, but when complaining about perceived mistreatment, it almost always comes off as "Help! help! I'm being repressed!" but without the humor of Chapman, Cleese, Idle, Gilliam, Jones, and Palin.

I don't know why people vote "inflammatory" or "no value" on posts that are clearly not violating the CoH, but waving the victim flag and drawing attention to it just invites more of the same.

Really Kate? You expect people to be civil when there are asshats running around collapsing "thanks yous"?

No - I expect people to act like adults. Incivility is a poor response to asshattery.

I beg to differ Dennis, I am one of those so-called hundreds. In fact I am still here! And as a matter of fact on this very subject on one of my articles you were the one who left. Why don't you just face it, you say there were hundreds who disagreed with you, why don't you take a hint and admit it is you who are wrong! It won't hurt you to admit it, everybody already knows you are. Perhaps you should stay out of discussions on religion altogether since by your own claims you don't believe in any of them. And they don't need you defending them like you're the lone ranger, you're doing more damage than good. That is my observation from my experience with you.

No, we do know the "intended target"...it was Washington, DC. That has been confirmed by interrogations of Bin Laden's driver and an interview given by Sheik Mohammed to Al Jazeera, among others. The only "conjecture" involved is that the driver said it was supposed to hit the Capitol, Sheik Mohammed said the White House.

The point is that al aqeada terrorism is not exclusive to attacks on the US. Whatever hate there is for America is not exclusive to America. Those attacks, intended targets, hate, are subsets of actions and attitudes related to a broader concept. Imperialism (by their definition of the concept) is the enemy against which they fight. Their radical enemy is the forces of imperialism.

I'm saying that Middle Eastern militant groups hate the policies of the west that have oppressed them for centuries. Of course that includes America. It also includes Great Britain, France, and anyone else who has meddled in the ME for centuries.

Exactly. The World Trade Center. Trains in London and Madrid during business hours. Airline lights. What do all those things have in common? They are all essential parts if doing business. Knock down the economic headquarters, then make people afraid to travel for business or go to work.

Bin Laden's stated goal was to bankrupt us. Unfortunately, with Bush's help, he did a pretty good job of it.

In this case, the comments suggest that there is something inherently evil about Islam and Muslim people. That is bigotry. False comparison. He's his father. Allah simply means God in Arabic. Isa means Jesus.

Nevertheless, the point is being missed here. What the administration is trying to do is counteract the bull@!$%# that says Islam is inherently violent and that what the terrorists do is jihad. It's not, and it's not.

The fact that 1.5 billion Muslims, all of whom are obligated to participate in jihad (the real thing) are peaceful, is proof of that. You give to charity - that's jihad. You change some old ladies flat tire - jihad. You live an honest life and don't hurt anyone - jihad. You attack someone - not jihad. Jihad is the struggle to live as God would want you to, and that's all it is.

Lets tell the truth here. The various terror groups have political goals and hit political targets. Religion has nothing to do with it. They simply use religion to justify their actions and recruit uneducated, impressionable young guys, and we use religion because it's an easy answer and requires no thought whatsoever.

Just blame the religion, and you're done. No need to even think about it.

As for the paintings you asked about - I haven't done them. If you'd like to commission something, though...

See, I tend to paint in series. Always have. Probably goes back to the days when I apprenticed for Warhol.

The paintings you mentioned before, Bush, et al, are from a series called Neocon. That series was painted while that administration was still in office. The paintings I'm working on now are completely different. Not political at all. What I'll do next...no one knows, including me.

If something affects me on a level that I just can't ignore, I end up painting it. I rarely do one-off paintings, instead painting in series of 20, 30, even more. Because of that, a series can take years.

A note about the idiots you mentioned above - bin Laden and the others. I don't give a rat's ass about those jerks, so why would I paint them?

Sure it would. Al Qaida and Hizb'allah are active here. Want to know where the real war on terror is? It's right here. After all, this is the land between Europe and the ME...between the West and the East.

But I don't even consider popularity when I paint. I couldn't care less about such things.

I have a website for that, though I was the first person to post images as content on Newsvine, back in 2006. I lobbied for images for months (Newsvine had no images at all back then) and as soon as we got that ability, I started posting paintings. That led to other people doing the same, people posting photographs, and so on.

    It is logical that one wanting to learn about a faith would start by reading its most holy text. For some, however, the Qur'an can be difficult to sit down and read from cover to cover. The revelation was given over a period of decades, and each verse has a particular scriptural and historical context. The themes of the Qur'an are interwoven among the chapters, and the book is not in chronological order.

    The four Fuqaha’ have agreed that al-Jihaad is al-Qitaal (fighting) and to help there in (i.e. in Qitaal).

    To you is the definition of the four jurists:

    1. Al-Hanafiyah:

    It says in Fath al-Qadeer by Ibn Humaam 5/187: "al-Jihaad: calling the Kuffar to the religion of truth and to fight them if they do not accept". al-Kaasaani said in al-Badaa’i’, 9/4299 "To sacrifice ones strength and energy in Fighting in the way of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jal with ones life, property and the tongue and whatever besides".

    2. Al-Maalikiyah:

    For a Muslim to fight against a Kaafir who is not under oath, to raise the word of Allah, or if he (Kaafir) is in his (Muslim’s) presence (in order to attack him), or upon his (Kaafir) entering his (Muslim’s) land. (Haashiya al-‘Adawi/as-Sa’eedi 2/2 and ash-Sharh as-Sagheer/Aqrab al-Masaalik by ad-Dardeer 2/267)

    3. Ash-Shaafi’iyah:

    Al-Baajawari said, "al-Jihaad means: al-Qitaal (fighting) in the way of Allah", al-Baajawari / Ibnul-Qaasim 2/261. Ibn Hajr said in al-Fath 6/2, "…and legally (it means) sacrificial striving in fighting the Kuffar"

    4. Al-Hanbaliyah:

    "To Fight the Kuffar" see Mataalibu Ulin-Nahi 2/497. "al-Jihaad is al-Qitaal (fighting) and to sacrifice all strength in it to raise the Word of Allah", see ‘Umdatul-Fiqh p.166, and Muntahal-Iraadaat 1/302.

    The Conclusive Statement:
    Indeed whenever the word "Jihaad" is spoken then verily it means al-Qitaal (fighting), and the phrase "Fee Sabeelillah" (in the way of Allah) is spoken then surely it means al-Jihaad.

    I did not provide any verses. I provided the hanbali, hanafi, shafi'i, and maliki ruling on what al-jihaad means, with regards to the quran and sunnah.

    Jihad of the Sword is defensive. A Muslim is called to protect his land, his nation, his religion, his family, his property from those who would attack it.

    I find it odd that a religion would have rules for warfare, but that's for another discussion. Jihad is not strictly for defense. Here's from your link:

    War’ is only one of many meanings of jihad. The word that is synonymous with it is qital, accompanied by the phrase fisabilillah, which means, in the way of Allah. This shows that the sole purpose of war in Islam is to uphold the word of All-Mighty Allah and not for purposes other than that.

    Purpose of war is to uphold to word of allah? Ambiguous at best...

    A combination of either of these two words (al-jihad or al-qital) followed by the phrase fi sabilillah can be found in 50 places in the Holy Quran.

    Here's the rule...you just have to call them to islam first. If they reject it, fight them...this is not defensive.

    Bukhari (8:387)- Allah's Apostle said, "I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah

    That doesn't need too much interpretation...you don't need interpretation, just read it. It sez what it sez...

    There's your defensive jihad: if a kafir is in a muslims presence to attack him. The other two reasons ar a kafir not under oath (i.e. not a dhimmi), and if a kafir just enters muslim land...not for attack, just entering.

    Shafi'i:

    legally (it means) sacrificial striving in fighting the Kuffar"

    IAW quran 9:111 which says kill and be killed for allah. No ambiguity there. No defense.

    Hanbali:

    al-Jihaad is al-Qitaal (fighting) and to sacrifice all strength in it to raise the Word of Allah

    To raise the word of allah. Not in defense of the word of allah. Just to raise it.

    Quran 8.60:

    Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly.

Hātib’s excuse for this [conduct of his] was accepted [by the Prophet]; when verily they have disbelieved in the truth that has come to you, that is, [in] the religion of Islam and the Qur’ān, expelling the Messenger and you, from Mecca, by oppressing you, because you believe in God, your Lord. If you have gone forth to struggle in My way and to seek My pleasure … (the response to the conditional is indicated by what preceded, that is to say, [understand it as being] ‘then do not take them as friends’). You secretly harbour affection for them, when I know well what you hide and what you proclaim. And whoever among you does that, that is, to secretly communicate the Prophet’s news to them, has verily strayed from the right way, he has missed the path of guidance (originally, al-sawā’ means ‘the middle [way]’).

    2.218 Those who believed and those who suffered exile and fought (and strove and struggled) in the path of God,- they have the hope of the Mercy of God. And God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

    5.35 O ye who believe! Do your duty to God,[719] seek the means of approach unto Him, and strive with might and main in his cause: that ye may prosper

That, description mentioned, is God’s bounty; He gives it to whom He will; and God is Embracing, of abundant bounty, Knowing, of those who deserve it.

    8.72 Those who believed, and adopted exile, and fought for the Faith, with their property and their persons, in the cause of God, as well as those who gave (them) asylum[1218] and aid,- these are (all) friends and protectors, one of another. As to those who believed but came not into exile,[1219] ye owe no duty of protection to them until they come into exile; but if they seek your aid in religion, it is your duty to help them, except against a people with whom ye have a treaty of mutual alliance.[1220] And (remember) God seeth all that ye do.

    Truly those who believed and emigrated and strove with their wealth and their lives in the way of God, these being the Emigrants, and those who provided refuge, for the Prophet (s), and assisted, these being the Helpers, those are allies of one another, in terms of [mutual] support and inheritance. And those who believed but did not emigrate — you have no duty to make an alliance (read wilāya or walāya) with them, and so there is no inheriting between you and them and no share of the spoils for them, until they emigrate, this was abrogated by the end of this sūra; but if they ask you for assistance in the matter of religion then it is your duty to assist, them against the disbelievers, except against a folk between whom and you there is a covenant, a pact: in which case, do not assist them against these others and so break your pact; and God sees what you do.

    8.74 Those who believe, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith, in the cause of God as well as those who give (them) asylum and aid,- these are (all) in very truth the Believers: for them is the forgiveness of sins and a provision most generous

In other words: when it has not yet become manifest who the sincere ones are — those described in the exclusive way mentioned. And God is aware of what you do.

They are not comparable in the sight of God. and God guides not those who do wrong.

    You're more than welcome to your religion, LoL. I just won't tolerate proselytizing in my home. If I wanted to follow your religion, I know where to go find information on it. As it is, I know more than enough about the Abrahamic religions to know that I don't like any of them. I've got some great friends of all religions, I simply tell them not to involve me in their religious discussions, lest hurt feelings arise because I don't believe in their gods. Likewise when I go to their houses, I don't bring out my disbelief in their gods and wear it on my chest. If their conversations turn religious, I excuse myself and go find something else to do. I know being polite and expressing a show of manners is quite rough for some people when it comes to their religion but they still exist in the world.

Dennis has cited several contradictions to your hypotheses. The most obvious is the cherry picked "information" from which you deduce your condemnation. The abundance of hypothesis does nothing to affirm those that are false. Without an emotional appeal (typically fear) the argument falls short of convincing and no where near the truth.

    Besides, Islamic Music is a genre- it doesn't mean all music by Muslims anymore than Christian music means all music by Christians. Sometimes Christian people play Jazz, Blues, Rock or whatever, and the same is true of Muslims.

    I had one of those Dennis. He would follow me from thread to thread leaving off-topic personal comments and attacks. He was finally banned. I've noticed you have a couple who do the same thing, including the one you mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, that falls under the definition of harassment, and a violation of this CoH:

    He has yet to make one comment on this seed about the article, just comments about Dennis. That's the very definition of a troll.

    Dennis in case you're confused as to why people give you a hard time, it is because of your tendency of acting superior to others. I have never once seen you admit you are wrong. Even when you were. Sometimes the last person to know is the one who is guilty.

    There are times when I was wrong, I admit it immediately, or as soon as I discover my error. Even though I am not human, even we can make mistakes.

    I have to go to the Vega star system galactic library to pick up some holographic recordings of earth's ancient past. I can't wait to get back to find out what other violations of our constitution Obama has perpetrated.

    I think all buzz the White House just for kicks and giggles before I leave. It's really fun when they scramble the F22 Raptors.
